Micco and Barefoot Bay sit on the Indian River at the south end of Brevard County, twelve miles from Palm Bay down US-1. Barefoot Bay is a 55-plus community of nearly five thousand manufactured homes with its own recreation district, golf course, canals and rules; Micco is the older unincorporated town around it along the river and the Sebastian River, with a mix of old Florida cottages, newer houses and riverfront lots. The trees are palms first — thousands of sabals, queens and Washingtonias on small lots — then the live oaks and pines of the older Micco streets, the Australian pines along the water, and the Brazilian pepper that has taken the river banks and every vacant lot.
The work is small-lot work at volume: palms trimmed properly across whole streets at a time, queen palms dying of lethal bronzing removed before they infect the neighbors', trees taken down between manufactured homes where a limb through a roof is a total loss, stumps ground low so the carports and the sheds can go back, pepper cleared along the river and the canals with the stumps treated, and storm cleanup — Barefoot Bay took Frances and Jeanne hard in 2004 and every storm since, and a community of manufactured homes needs the hangers down and the trees off roofs faster than anywhere. We work with the recreation district's and the homeowner groups' rules, and Brevard County's permit rules apply here rather than a city's.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Barefoot Bay?
The county's rules apply in unincorporated Micco and Barefoot Bay — most single-family removals and every invasive are exempt, with protections for large specimen trees — and Barefoot Bay's recreation district and homeowner groups have their own approvals for what's visible from the street. We check both before we quote.
Can you trim all the palms on my street at once?
Yes — that's the cheapest way to do it. Neighbors who book together get a group rate because the bucket truck does twenty palms in a morning without moving far.
How do you take a tree down between two manufactured homes?
Piece by piece from the top, every section roped to a lowering device and set down on the lawn — nothing dropped, nothing swung. It's slower and it's the only way; a limb through a manufactured-home roof is usually a total loss.
My queen palm is dying and my neighbor's just died. Is it spreading?
Almost certainly lethal bronzing, which the planthoppers carry from palm to palm — and the small lots in Barefoot Bay make it move fast. Remove the sick ones promptly; consider preventive injections for the palms you'd hate to lose.
How fast can you get to Barefoot Bay after a storm?
It's on the first-day list; manufactured homes with trees on them are a priority above almost everything else we do.
