Frances and Jeanne came three weeks apart in September 2004 and Jeanne made landfall just south of Sebastian Inlet; Matthew ran up the coast in 2016; Irma in 2017; Ian and then Nicole in 2022; Milton in October 2024 with 50–70 mph gusts across the county and 80 on the coast, an EF-1 tornado through Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island and seven tornadoes in Indian River County. What should I do first if a tree is on my house?
Get everyone out of the room under it and away from the damaged area, kill the power to that part of the house if you can do it safely, and if you smell gas or see a downed wire get out and call the utility or 911. Then call us. Don't go on the roof, don't cut anything yourself, and don't let anyone who knocks on the door with a chainsaw start — a tree on a roof is under load and comes apart unpredictably.
Does insurance cover emergency tree removal?
If the tree is on a covered structure — house, pool cage, shed, fence — standard Florida policies pay to remove it from the structure and repair the damage, minus your deductible, and usually a few hundred dollars toward hauling it away. A tree in the yard that hit nothing generally isn't covered. We photograph everything with dates, and we invoice the mitigation separately from the removal. See insurance and financing.
Do you charge more at night?
There's a call-out fee for nights, weekends and holidays because we're paying a crew to leave their beds, and it's credited toward the work. It's a fraction of what another night of rain through the roof costs.
A tree is on the power line too. Who do I call?
FPL first (1-800-4OUTAGE) and 911 if the line is down or sparking. Nobody — not us, not you — should be near that tree until the line is dead or cleared. Once FPL has made it safe, call us and we're there.
How soon can you come during a hurricane?
As soon as it's safe to put a crew under a tree — in sustained high wind that may be a few hours. We stage before the storm, we start the moment the wind drops, and we work the list in priority order. If you call during the storm, you're on the list before it ends.
